Some TEFL course providers may request A-levels or a high school graduation certificate, and a few might even require a degree. However, we believe that these credentials are not essential. What truly matters is having a TEFL qualification and relevant teaching experience. Grades earned during your studies do not determine your potential to become an excellent TEFL teacher, so we don't consider them necessary or ask for them.

Most TEFL courses are named according to the number of hours they take to complete. So, the answer might seem obvious to some – as long as the course name suggests, surely? A 120-hour TEFL course will take 120 hours to complete. However, you can learn the courses and take the tests at your own pace.

A TEFL certification does not expire. Once earned, a TEFL certificate lasts a lifetime and you can start working immediately.

The time it takes to obtain the certificate depends on your learning ability and time commitment. Once you have completed the study and passed the tests, there will also be a verification process for your identity, which will take some additional time.

Reasons for identity verification for TEFL students:

• To ensure the verification of your TEFL certificate, your name on it should correspond with your identity document.
• We hope these precious TEFL resources at no charge can be effectively used by teachers in need, instead of being stolen or misused by people with an ulterior motive. We have found that someone took the test under someone else's name. To avoid similar situations that disrupt the order of the English teaching field, we have decided to start an authentication mechanism to confirm certificate applicants' identity.
• We will do everything possible to protect your personal information, which will only be used for authentication at the time of certificate application and will not be disclosed to any third party. If we find you provided any false information or your information has been used to apply for a certificate, we have the right to reject your application.

The requirements for an identity document typically include the following:

• Validity: The document should be current and not expired.
• Legitimacy: The document should be issued by a recognized governmental or authoritative institution.
• Accuracy: The personal information on the document should be accurate and match the individual's identity.
• Photo: The document should include a clear and recent photograph of the individual.

📌 Notice: These requirements may vary depending on the specific country, government regulations, and the purpose of the identity document. Generally your ID document needs contain your name and photo.

If you can’t upload your identity document, you can:

• Verify your ID document is in JPG, PNG or JPEG format. PDF or Word is not accepted.
• Verify the name of your document is XXX.jpg (or XXX.png or XXX.jpeg). XXX or XXX jpg or XXX, jpg or XXX..jpg etc., is not accepted.
• Change the network, computer or browser.

Normally the ID verification process may take 5-10 working days. Once it is approved, your TEFL certificate will be directly issued.

If your identity verification failed to be approved, it might be due to one of the following:

• The ID document you provided is not valid. A correct ID must contain both your name and photo.
• The certificate name does not match the ID document you provided.
• The ID document has not been repeatedly used.
• Your TEFL account has violated the user policies.

You can only download your TEFL certificate in your teacher account. You can follow the steps below to download your TEFL certificate:

Sign in to your Teacher Account -> Click My Account/Dashboard -> Certificates -> TEFL Certificates -> Download

If you can't download your certificate, you need to make sure that：

• You can only download the certificate from your TR account directly, and not through the notification email.
• The certificate is in PDF format. Some mobile phones or their browsers may not display PDF files clearly after downloading them. If this happens, you can try downloading it on your computer.

The name on your certificate is exactly the same as what you submitted after you finished the certificate on the page. There is also an announcement on the page when you fill in your name, it states the name cannot be revised after submission as the system does all the jobs automatically.

However, if you did make a mistake and want to change it, there will be a name change administration fee of $15, The name change fee covers the administrative costs associated with processing the request and reissuing the certificate. And the edited name must match the one initially provided in your identification document.

If you can accept the name change policies, you can contact the TeacherRecord Support Team to submit your name change request.

You can enter your teacher account and find the TEFL page. Click "Order Hard Copy" to purchase a physical copy of your TEFL certificate.

To obtain a TEFL transcript, please follow these steps:

• Log in to your teacher account.
• Navigate to the TEFL page.
• Click on the "Download E-transcript" or click "Order Hard Copy" option to purchase a physical transcript.

If you want to order a TEFL hard copy or transcript, the estimated delivery time is generally around 2-3 weeks or 3-7 weeks:

• Express Shipping: 2-3 weeks
• Standard Shipping: 3-7 weeks

Your order will be processed within one week after payment completion. Once shipped, you can find the tracking number in your TEFL account.

When it comes to hiring, employers often need to verify your TEFL certificate online. This is to ensure that your certification is authentic and that you possess the qualifications to teach English. To verify your TeacherRecord TEFL certificate, simply visit our certificate verification page and fill out your certificate number to search. Your TEFL course certificate number can be found at the bottom of your certificate and looks like this: TR.0123456789.

The legalization or apostille process is different from notarization. Notarization only involves a Notary Public. The authentication process and steps required are dictated by the country where you will work. You should check with the embassy of the country where you will work for the most up-to-date rules. If you do not how to do that, you can ask the local employer or agent for help.

There are lots of companies that provide paid services for legalization and notarization. We highly recommend utilizing these agents as the process of legalization and notarization is usually messy and complicated. It involves multiple parties, and without sufficient experience, you could potentially make costly mistakes. After all these agents are specialists in this field.

Some countries might also require an additional notarized stamp on your certificate, although this is not required very often.

The notarization is done by a Notary Public, but anyone can take a certificate/diploma to them for notarization.
